| One of the earliest theaters designed by John Jacob Zink and his first in DC, the Takoma Theatre is dark now and threatened by demolition. Since its opening in 1924 the Takoma Theatre has been one of the major locations for community and family activities, including the annual Takoma Fourth of July parade, and weekly yo-yo contests. | It is amazing but the building
of the Takoma Theatre remains structurally intact in its historic form.
Its facade, marquee and the iconic Takoma sign on the roof remain essentially
untouched since construction. Nowadays community members are doing everything possible to light-up the theatre. |
